Carlo Bidoli (muso):
(after a Barleycorn Music Club performance)
Antrim to me was a most enjoyable mix of thoughtful, touching lyrics travelling on a bed of well-crafted and fitting music and harmony producing original songs of deeply moving and touching personal takes from the composer’s real life experiences that is so relatable to what we all go through from time to time. This is delivered combining Jonathan Horne’s laid back, matter of fact, yet poignant singing style and his rhythmical guitar playing with the thoughtful, well placed, subtle yet solid bass lines and vocal harmonies of Gustav Franzsen and the superb percussion and mandolin playing of Justin Jefthas who has only encountered the latter in the past month! Beautiful, listenable, laid back, thoughtful, mesmerizingly enjoyable and uplifting music delivered by 3 gifted, dedicated and devoted musicians!!!
A big thank you to you all at Antrim Band for writing, producing and performing this lovely material!
Feedback on our single, ‘Andringastraat’:
Nielen Prinsloo (muso):
That sounds quite nice – sort of laid-back Anton Goosen sound? I liked what I heard of Horne’s songs when I heard him at your club in Stellies.
Ozzy Mars (muso) :
Nou eers kon luister. Goeie fok, dis amazing ou!!!!
Ek gaan nie record as dit nie daar is nie.
Ja, asb sê hom. Die song is right up my alley. Maak my hart bietjie kak.
Jonathan Horne:
Wou jou nog sê.
My pa bel my eergister aand. Vertel my hy het Andringa seker al 20 keer geluister.
Hy se as hy die moer in raak gaan luister hy die song. Dit kalmeer hom sê hy…
Nou as jy my pa ken sal jy weet dit is n ma moerse complement.
Albert du Plessis (Rhythm Records) :
Hey man. Dit groove super rustig. Skommel so tussen ‘n groot ou wyfieperd en ‘n boot. Regte musiek.
Yo – lovvit. Kan diekant toe en daaikant toe chat oor production, maar die song sy’s daar.
Sy ruik soosie wind voorie reën 🙏
Ek like die onprerensieuse groove.
Sven Blumer (muso, producer) :
Dis ‘n baie real en mooi recording!
Die endearing ding is dat dit so real en eenvoudig is. A la Valiant en voor hom Knopfler waar hy dit geleen het.
Lekker! Ja gehoor Jo is nice ou.
Unique bass tone en aanslag maak dit nog beter
Egt Kaapse vibe
Die Afrikaner het soothing songs nodig om te weer teen al die vrese en bloedrivier sentimente wat heers die laaste tyd.
Heine du Toit (muso) :
Jirre hy val sag , vokke sag!!!
